Bicentennial Concert

One of the landmarks in the revival of country music after the long decades of Rock and Roll imposed obscurity was the famous concert Radio 2TM organised in Tamworth to celebrate Australia’s Bi centenary in 1970.

A number of pioneers were brought out of retirement for the show. These included Smoky Dawson. Shirley Thoms, Buddy Bishop and Billy Blinkhorn.

It was held in the Tamworth Town Hall on  March 25th1970, and it’s line up of stars was :

Slim Dusty & Joy McKean

Barry Thornton

"Smiling" Billy Blinkhorn

Smoky Dawson

Shirley Thoms

Buddy Bishop

Songwriters included :

Mac Cormack

Wave Jackson

Joe Daly

Stan Coster

Unfortunately only a few, poor photos exist from this landmark concert. If you have any pics or information please let us know.
